Routine Maintenance of Emergency Weather Sirens Begins Today

Beginning today, the city's emergency weather warning sirens will undergo routine maintenance to ensure they remain in proper working order.

As part of this work, each of the city's 25 sirens will briefly sound for approximately 5 to 10 seconds. These short activations are not an indication of severe weather and should not be a cause for alarm.

The maintenance program allows staff to test equipment, perform necessary repairs and verify that the warning system is ready to alert residents during emergencies. Weather sirens are a critical tool in notifying the public of tornadoes and severe storms

Residents who hear the sirens during the testing period are encouraged to treat the activations as routine maintenance only. In the event of actual severe weather, all sirens will sound continuously for several minutes.
