The Grinnell Water Department will be mailing service line material notifications this week to properties with lead, galvanized, or unknown water service line materials. These notices are required annually by the Environmental Protection Agency's Lead and Copper Rule. There is no action required on your part at this time.
The letters explain what type of service line is present at your address (lead, galvanized, or unknown), share tips to reduce potential lead exposure in drinking water, and how to determine what kind of service line your residence has if it's unknown.
Service line replacement on private property is the homeowner's responsibility, however, the city is currently exploring options to help offset the cost of future replacements. If you have questions or need assistance identifying your service line material, please contact the Grinnell Water Department at 641- 236-2635 or email [email protected].
