The discodelic, NYC-born trio Say She She made their late-night television debut last night on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, performing their new single "Disco Life."
Watch the tour-de-force performance HERE, and listen to the studio version of the song HERE, off their upcoming third album, Cut & Rewind (10/3, drink sum wtr).
A reckoning of the wreckage that was the 1979 Disco Demolition Night - the infamous publicity stunt-turned-riot in Chicago where attendees burned disco records - FLOOD describes "Disco Life" like so: "Disco Life" takes direct aim at the homophobia, misogyny, and racism of such a spectacle in the name of macho, heterocentric rock music; it also makes the great point that disco rules, actually, and that we, the people, have never quite moved on from those lush dancefloor sounds.
Read more at FLOOD in the band's "Playlist for the People" feature of songs that inspired the new song HERE.
And read an interview feature with the band at The Guardian about their upcoming album, and the political, often subversive messaging contained in its "unique blend of psych-tinged 70s disco, 80s post-punk and hypnotic three-part harmonies" HERE.
Pre-order Cut & Rewind, HERE.
Listen to the band's previous single, the pro-labor "Under the Sun" HERE … KCRW called it "Their dreamiest, most sway-ready song to date. Written during the WGA strike in 2023, the song is a summery ode to standing up to the man."
Prior to last night's Kimmel performance, Say She She have played everywhere from Later ... with Jools Holland, CBS Saturday and Kelly Clarkson to Glastonbury (four sets in 24 hours for their debut there), Boonaroo, and, coming up, their largest show to date, at London's O2 Academy Brixton (11/26).
In just three years since their debut, Say She She - Piya Malik, Sabrina Mileo Cunningham, and Nya Gazelle Brown - have gone from neighbors harmonizing through the floorboards to selling out shows across the US and UK, earning praise from NPR Music ("perfect"), the BBC ("going to take over the world"), and famous fans the likes of Childish Gambino and Questlove.
Watch their interview on CBS MorningsHERE, when the band were treated to a surprise appearance by their hero, and the band's namesake, Nile Rodgers.
