Fairmont State University Sponsors Leadership Marion’s Charity Pickleball Tournament

Fairmont State University will sponsor an upcoming charity pickleball tournament hosted by Leadership Marion Class 43. Leadership Marion is a program through the Marion County Chamber of Commerce, which aims to identify, develop, and sustain community leaders. The program develops and enhances participants' leadership skills, provides them with knowledge of Marion County, and cultivates their involvement across the county.

The Battle of the Paddle Pickleball Tournament will be held in Fairmont State's Falcon Center on May 3, and all funds raised will benefit youth, community, and leadership development in Marion County. Specifically, proceeds will be donated to the Marion County Future Farmers of America (FFA), the Dr. William E. Phillips Jr. Leadership Marion Scholarship, and one tuition sponsorship for a Leadership Marion Class 44 participant.

Fairmont State University will sponsor the event by donating the Falcon Center facility as well as food and drink, ultimately helping Leadership Marion Class 43 maximize the amount of funds raised to benefit Marion County.

"Fairmont State University is proud to support Battle of the Paddle and to strengthen the partnerships that lift our communities," shared President Mike Davis. "Leadership Marion plays a vital role in developing leaders who not only make a difference here in Marion County, but across the entire state of West Virginia. We're honored to work alongside organizations that invest in people, expand opportunities, and build a stronger future for our region and our state."

The pickleball tournament will run from noon until 4 p.m. on May 3 and is open to both players and spectators. Each team, comprised of two players, will receive a guaranteed 3-match minimum through round-robin style matches. Registration costs for players include food and a swag bag. Additional giveaways, raffles, and games will be available throughout the event for players and spectators to partake in.
