City of Southfield Opens Cooling Center During Extreme Heat: Wednesday, July 15

In response to forecasted extreme heat, the City of Southfield is opening a cooling center for residents seeking relief from dangerous temperatures. The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Watch for Southeast Michigan, Wednesday, July 15, 2026.

Forecast conditions include:

• Daytime highs in the upper 90s, potentially near 100°F
• Heat index values up to 106°F
• Overnight lows remaining in the low-to-mid 70s, limiting overnight relief
• A gradual cooldown expected by Thursday

Wednesday, July 15: 9:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m.

Residents are encouraged to:

• Drink plenty of water and stay hydrated.

• Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing.
• Check on older adults, neighbors, and others who may be vulnerable to extreme heat.
• Never leave children or pets unattended in a vehicle.

Anyone experiencing symptoms of heat-related illness, such as dizziness, confusion, nausea, or loss of consciousness, should call 911 or seek immediate medical attention.
