Detectives Working to Identify Person Who Opened Fire on Moving MNPD Vehicle Overnight

Detectives are working to identify the person who opened fire on a moving unmarked MNPD vehicle in a brazen act of violence just before 1 a.m. today on Harding Place near Nolensville Pike.

A female detective was conducting surveillance as part of a robbery investigation and was stopped in the Wal-Mart parking lot at 4040 Nolensville Pike. She saw a white or silver four-door sedan coming toward her, at which point she drove out of the parking lot onto Harding Place. The sedan followed her, sped up on Harding Place, and pulled along the left (driver's) side of the unmarked police car. At that point, several shots were fired from the sedan, three of which hit the police vehicle (one in the driver's door, two in the back door). The detective was not injured and immediately radioed what had just taken place. The sedan sped away on Harding Place toward the I-24 interchange.

There are no license plate readers on public roadways to assist in this investigation. Detectives are working in the community to find available video. A still shot of the suspect car is attached to this email. Anyone with information about the car and/or its occupants is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463.
