RWJBarnabas Health Hospitals Earn Top Hospital Safety Grades from The Leapfrog Group

Hospitals Continue to Receive "A" & "B" Grades from Fall 2025 ratings

WEST ORANGE, N.J.- RWJBarnabas Health announced that all 12 of its acute care hospitals received high marks for patient safety in the latest Leapfrog Group's Spring 2026 Hospital Safety Grades. The system continues to demonstrate strong performance and progress, with six hospitals earning an "A" and six earning a "B" grade from The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit watchdog focused on patient safety.

Leapfrog assigns an "A", "B", "C", "D" or "F" grade to general hospitals across the country using evidence-based measures of patient safety focused exclusively on errors, accidents, injuries and infections.

RWJBarnabas Health's A-rated hospitals include Community Medical Center in Toms River, Jersey City Medical Center, Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus in Lakewood, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset in Somerville, and Trinitas Regional Medical Center in Elizabeth.

"Our continued focus and prioritization of patient safety and quality is reflected in these results," said Andy Anderson, MD, Executive Vice President and Chief Medical and Quality Officer at RWJBarnabas Health. "We are committed to delivering exceptional patient-centered, high-quality care that sets the standard for academic medical care in New Jersey."

"An 'A' Grade is a strong sign that RWJBarnabas Health is deeply committed to protecting patients from harm," said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. "We commend the leadership, Board, clinicians, staff and volunteers for the role each played in earning this distinction."

This was the seventh consecutive "A" rating for both Community Medical Center and Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus. Jersey City Medical Center raised its score from a "B" to an "A".

Clara Maass Medical Center in Belleville, Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Hamilton, and Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Rahway received a "B" grade.

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade stands as the only hospital ratings program focused solely on preventable medical errors, infections and injuries that kill more than 500 patients a day in the United States. This program is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
