Garbarino Votes to End Democrat Shutdown, Pay Troops, and Fund Critical Programs

Washington, D.C. - Today, Congressman Andrew R. Garbarino (R-NY-02) voted to end the 43-day Democrat shutdown, ensuring that servicemembers receive their paychecks, families continue to access nutrition assistance through SNAP and WIC, and vital veterans' health programs remain funded. "For six weeks, Senate Democrats have held the government hostage to score political points while Long Island families, small businesses, and veterans paid the price," said Congressman Garbarino. "Today, House Republicans took action to end these hardships, pay our troops, and deliver the relief hardworking Americans deserve. It's time to return to Washington, complete full-year appropriations, and stay focused on the common-sense priorities the American people expect us to deliver."

The Continuing Resolution (CR) passed today funds government operations through January 30, 2026, while advancing three bipartisan appropriations bills. It includes:

  • Full-year funding for veterans' health care, housing, and benefits - including $115 billion for veterans' medical care.
  • Continued support for SNAP, WIC, and other nutrition assistance programs to ensure no American family goes hungry.
  • Guaranteed pay for active duty servicemembers and $19.7 billion for military construction and family housing.
  • Restores pay for TSA agents and air traffic controllers who have worked without pay to keep Americans safe.

"Republicans have been clear from the very beginning: the government must stay open, our troops must be paid, and essential services must continue," Garbarino added "Democrats' delay did nothing but hurt the very people they claim to fight for. I'm proud we stood united to end this shutdown and put people over politics."
