City of Waco Appoints David Olson as Assistant City Manager

The City of Waco is pleased to announce the appointment of David Olson, PE, as Assistant City Manager, effective August 31, 2026.

Olson brings more than 20 years of experience in municipal leadership, engineering, and infrastructure management. Most recently, he served as Assistant City Manager for the City of Temple, where he helped oversee major operational departments and led key infrastructure, utility, transportation, economic development, and capital improvement initiatives.

In Waco, Olson will oversee the City's Infrastructure Services, Public Works, Customer Engagement, and Development Services departments. He was selected for his extensive experience leading many of the same municipal functions that support Waco's continued growth and long-term strategic priorities.

Prior to his service in Temple, Olson held several leadership positions with the City of Killeen, including Acting Assistant City Manager, Executive Director of Public Works, and Director of Transportation. He also spent several years as a civil engineering consultant specializing in municipal infrastructure and land development projects.

A licensed Professional Engineer and graduate of Texas A&M University, Olson is recognized for his collaborative leadership style, technical expertise, and commitment to developing employees and delivering exceptional public service.

"His experience leading infrastructure, public works, engineering, utilities, transportation, and development organizations gives him the expertise needed to support several of Waco's largest operational departments. Olson said he is excited to join the City of Waco and continue building on the organization's success.
