Hanna Simmons earned her undergraduate degree at Brenau and is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Teaching through the TigerTEACH program. The program allows her to pursue her degree online while working as a paraprofessional at Buford Elementary School.

"I didn't hesitate to return to Brenau for the TigerTEACH program," Simmons says. "I love that it is flexible, allowing me to meet my students' needs as well as my own. I also do it at a substantially reduced cost, which is amazing!"

Her passion for education began with watching her mom teach and having "amazing" teachers who made learning fun and engaging. She hopes to share with her students the same kindness her teachers showed her.

"I have always wanted to be a teacher," Simmons says. "My mom was a teacher, and when I was younger, I often was right there with her, helping turn her classroom into a class family. I knew I wanted this for myself. I want to create a loving environment where students can feel loved and know they are capable of anything; I want to do my part in helping to build good humans in my classroom."

After completing her studies, Simmons wants to remain at Buford Elementary as a certified teacher. She looks forward to using what she has learned in her own classroom.

"Brenau has shown me how capable I am, pushing me to do my best," Simmons says. "I am capable of working a full-time job, giving 110% to my students and working through my assignments. I have loved being able to see what I am learning take place in the classroom."
