Lenhart and research team launch power grid resilience project with NASA

Stephanie Lenhart, associate professor of environmental studies and member of the Energy Policy Institute, recently traveled to the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory for the launch of a two-year $890,000 project to improve power grid resilience.

The Predictive Risk Investigation for Systemic Multi-Hazards to the Power Grid (PRISM-GRID) project is funded by the NASA Disasters program to advance science and build tools to help communities make informed decisions for disaster planning. The project involves working directly with power grid partners to translate risk science on wildfire, climate, and space weather into decision-making practices and governance structures.

Lenhart is working with Anika Cathcart, a Master of Public Administration student at Boise State, and Calvin Sapnbauer, a PhD candidate at Princeton University, to integrate energy governance and qualitative research with complex risk science and energy system engineering.
