News/Media Alliance Honors Senator Blackburn and Senator Cantwell at Support Journalism Awards Dinner

Arlington, VA - Yesterday, October 7th, the News/Media Alliance held its Support Journalism Awards Dinner , an annual event intended to bring together members of the news media industry to recognize the public servants who work tirelessly to support journalism in the United States.

In this year's event, the Alliance recognized two distinguished leaders in the Senate:

  • Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) was presented with the Support Journalism Champion Award for her work in championing the protection of intellectual property, particularly in pushing back against Big Tech monopolies.
  • Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA) received the Local News Leader Award in recognition of her leadership in supporting local journalism both in Washington and around the country.

Danielle Coffey, President and CEO of the News/Media Alliance , said, "The news media industry is facing strong headwinds, with enormous changes to the technological and economic foundations of our businesses making this a critical moment for the industry. If we are going to continue to provide the American people with the quality content they want and deserve, we need champions in Congress to keep our industry strong. We are so appreciative that Senators Blackburn and Cantwell have championed the defense of journalism throughout their careers, and are excited to have this opportunity to honor them for their work."

Today, following this dinner, nearly 100 members of the News/Media Alliance will spend the day on Capitol Hill meeting with members of Congress and their staff to reinforce the need for legislation that protects and supports quality journalism.
