BUCKEYE, AZ (January 27, 2026): A substitute teacher is facing a felony charge after punching an Odyssey Prep Academy student during class.
The assault was reported to a Buckeye Police School Resource Officer (SRO) assigned to the campus on Apache Rd. The SRO learned there was an argument between substitute teacher, 54-year-old Sarah Short, and a student that occurred while Short was instructing a class of 5th graders yesterday. That's when Short hit the 10-year-old male student in the back. The student did not require medical attention.
Short left the campus before officers arrived. Buckeye police contacted her later that day at her Goodyear home where she was arrested and booked on a charge of aggravated assault on a minor.
