Trinseo Presents at Advanced Recycling Conference 2025

Trinseo's Senior Research Manager Abidin Balan recently presented at the Advanced Recycling Conference 2025. The conference, which took place in Cologne, Germany, is one of Europe's key industry events dedicated to emerging recycling technologies and the advancement of circular material solutions. Balan, who leads the R&D teams developing Trinseo's dissolution recycling technology platform and operating its pilot plants, was a speaker in the End-of-Life Vehicles (ELV) session, where he presented on the Company's latest advancements in dissolution-based recycling.

In his presentation, Balan highlighted how dissolution enables the recovery and purification of high-performance polymers, such as polycarbonate (PC), acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) and PC/ABS, from complex ELV waste streams that are difficult to treat through mechanical recycling. He emphasized that while Trinseo already offers bio-attributed and recycled content-containing solutions for the automotive market, the addition of dissolution technology provides a powerful new route to address ELV waste and help original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and tier suppliers meet upcoming regulatory requirements, such as the ELV Directive.

Following his talk, Balan joined a panel discussion alongside other technology providers. The session explored global market trends, the challenges facing the European chemical industry and how companies can accelerate the implementation of sustainably advantaged* solutions. Throughout the discussion, speakers underscored the importance of broad collaboration across the value chain to successfully deploy advanced recycling technologies at scale.
