Affordable Path to Success: UMGC Grad Applies Skills in Military

Starting with dual enrollment in community college coursework while still in high school, Victor Villalta took advantage of the 3D Scholars program to earn a University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) bachelor's degree while enlisting in the Army. A partnership between Prince George's County Public Schools, Prince George's Community College, and UMGC, the program offers an accelerated path to a bachelor's degree at a cost of $10,000 or less.

In 2025, Villalta completed his Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity Technology while enlisted in the Army. He is stationed at Fort Benning, Georgia, where he works in a cybersecurity unit and is already applying his new skills to his military duties.

"The main advantage for me is that I was able to still pursue a career alongside my college degree," he said. The low-cost 3D Scholars program allowed him to begin his college studies before he qualified for military education benefits.
