University of Westminster apprentice Nasif Miah has been named a finalist in the Construction Services category for the Multicultural Apprenticeship Awards 2025. The awards highlight the achievements of apprentices and the contribution of employers and learning providers who have assisted them along their journey.
Previously known as the Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) Apprenticeship Awards, the Multicultural Apprenticeship Awards aim to showcase talent and diversity within multicultural communities. To do this they celebrate those working hard to overcome adversity to achieve their goals through apprenticeships.
Nasif Miah is currently in his fourth year as a Trainee Surveyor in the Commerical Evaluation team at Allsop LLP, an independent property consultancy in the UK. He spent three years as part of the Commercial Investments team before taking part in the Graduate Rotation Scheme in his final year, where he gained experience in both the commercial and residential specialist departments whilst completing two six-month rotations in each one. His work during this scheme involved writing reports ranging from short same-day residential auction appraisals to detailed 20+ page commercial auction reports, as well as carrying out numerous property inspections across the South Coast. These inspections varied from coastal properties in Folkestone to complex sites in Portsmouth, often presenting unique challenges such as large basements with no lighting. During his time, he also took part in the organisation's extracurricular activities and joined the football team.
Reflecting on the apprenticeship, Nasif said: "The best part of this apprenticeship has been the people, from my classmates and colleagues to my lecturers and tutors (a special mention to my favourite Dr Jan Wilcox). It taught me how the mix of theory and real-world practice keeps pushing me to see property differently, benefiting from both worlds and building me into the professional I want to be."
Dr Jan Wilcox, Senior Lecturer in Real Estate at the University, said: "Nas has been a confident member of the class since starting his apprenticeship and his studies with us. He is never afraid to put forward an opinion and is usually adept at justifying it with reference to relevant examples and experience. There have been occasions when his football commitments have clashed with his studies, and he has managed his time effectively to ensure that both obligations are satisfied. I think Nas provides a great role model to anyone considering an apprenticeship and those that know that full-time post-compulsory education is not for them."
The winners will be revealed on 7 November at the Hilton London Metropole.
The apprenticeship Nasif is taking at the University directly contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 4: Quality Education and 10: Reduced Inequalities.
