Speaker of the House of Representatives, Anġlu Farrugia, receivedGenevieve A. Kennedy, the newly appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Liberia to Malta, during a courtesy visit held at the Parliament of Malta following the presentation of her credentials.
Welcoming Ambassador Kennedy to Malta, the Speaker congratulated her on her appointment and expressed Malta's commitment to further strengthening bilateral ties with Liberia. He highlighted the importance of dialogue and cooperation between Malta and African partners, particularly within the broader context of EU-Africa relations, the Africa-EU Partnership, and shared objectives in peace, security, and sustainable development.
Speaker Anġlu Farrugia commended Liberia's democratic progress and its growing role in regional peacebuilding efforts. He also extended Malta's congratulations to Liberia on its election as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the term 2026-2027, expressing confidence that Liberia's tenure will amplify the voices of smaller states and promote the principles of peace, justice, and multilateralism.
Ambassador Kennedy thanked Speaker Farrugia for the warm welcome and conveyed the Liberian Government's interest in deepening cooperation with Malta, particularly in areas such as education, maritime affairs, digital innovation, climate action, and youth empowerment. She underlined Liberia's commitment to fostering stronger partnerships that reflect mutual respect and shared values.
Both parties agreed on the importance of continued collaboration between Malta and Liberia in addressing common global challenges and enhancing people-to-people and institutional exchanges.
