Ascension St. Vincent's hosted its Medical Mission at Home event on Saturday, May 9, offering free health and wellness services to community members who are uninsured, underinsured or facing barriers to traditional care, with no insurance or appointments required.
The event took place at the Prime F. Osborn Convention Center and provided compassionate health care and services to more than 220 community members. More than 400 volunteers were part of the effort to make Medical Mission at Home possible.
"This event is extremely special because it reflects what the Daughters of Charity started over 110 years ago: bringing care out into the community," said Scott Kashman, Interim Market Lead for Ascension St. Vincent's. "It represents what we do at Ascension and our dual identity as a faith-based healing ministry and healthcare enterprise."
Onsite services included:
"I'm really, really happy that they're here, because they're providing services that are much needed," said Walter Elkins, attendee. "There's a lot of people out there that don't have the ability to figure out what's actually going on, and that's half the battle."
Community partners, including Feeding Northeast Florida, provided some of the services at the event.
Medical Mission at Home is one of Ascension St. Vincent's flagship community impact programs, reflecting its mission to deliver compassionate, community-centered care with a focus on those most in need. First held in 2010's, the event's return in 2026 comes with plans to make it a recurring initiative.
