This summer, Santa Margarita Water District's communications intern, Miranda Riley, set out to learn what it really takes to keep water flowing to 210,000 customers every single day. What did she discover? That emergency preparedness is no small task-and it's something SMWD takes very seriously.
To wrap up her internship and share what she learned, Miranda created a fun, animated video that features none other than animated Miranda herself, walking viewers through the District's behind-the-scenes work. From fire-resistant infrastructure to 24/7 system monitoring, the video highlights just how much SMWD does to stand ready for anything-from earthquakes to wildfires and more.
Watch Miranda's video below and learn how SMWD stands prepared for emergencies-and how we're working to secure local water sources for the future.
The video is more than just a recap-it's a tribute to the people and planning that go into keeping the taps running. Miranda touches on the innovative engineering projects she learned about, ongoing maintenance that keeps systems reliable, and how the District is actively reducing reliance on imported water.
September is Emergency Preparedness Month, making it the perfect time to hear directly from Miranda the Intern about why being "water ready" isn't just a goal-it's an everyday mission at SMWD.
