High-level Romanian-American dialogue at 57th Mihail Kogălniceanu Air Base

Minister of National Defence Radu Miruță was part of the delegation led by the President of Romania, Nicușor Dan, which met on Sunday, August 30, at the 57^th Mihail Kogălniceanu Air Base, with a delegation from the U.S. House of Representatives led by Mike Rogers, Chairman of the Armed Services Committee.

Dialogul a vizat analiza situației de securitate din regiune, relațiile de cooperare în domeniul apărării şi modalitățile de extindere a acestora, investițiile şi modernizarea capabilităților militare, respectiv progresele înregistrate în urma Summitului de la Ankara.

The dialogue focused on the assessment of the regional security situation, defence cooperation relations and ways to expand them, investments and military capabilities' modernization, as well as progress made following the Ankara Summit.

Oficialii români și americani au avut, de asemenea, discuții cu militarii SUA dislocați în Baza 57 Aeriană Mihail Kogălniceanu și au vizitat infrastructura aflată în proces de dezvoltare, fiind evidențiat rolul bazei ca nod strategic important pentru Statele Unite și NATO în regiunea Mării Negre.

Romanian and American officials also held discussions with U.S. troops deployed at the 57^th Mihail Kogălniceanu Air Base and visited the infrastructure currently under development, and highlighted the base's role as a key strategic hub for the United States and NATO in the Black Sea region.

As part of the U.S. Congressional delegation's visit to Romania, Minister of National Defence Radu Miruță - accompanied by State Secretary for Defence Policy, Planning, and International Relations, Sorin Dan Moldovan, the Deputy Chief of the Defence Staff, Lieutenant General Dragoș Iacob and the Chief of Air Force Staff, Lieutenant General Leonard Baraboi - also briefed the delegation members on the 86^th "Lieutenant Aviator Gheorghe Mociorniță" Air Base in Borcea.

The visit provided an opportunity to showcase the activities conducted at the base, focusing on the training process for Romanian and Ukrainian pilots to operate F-16 aircraft, as well as the contribution of the infrastructure and capabilities developed there to strengthening Romani and Eastern Flank's air defence.

During the talks with members of the US delegation, Minister Radu Miruță reiterated Romania's commitment to remaining a fully engaged ally in efforts to strengthen collective defence, in close coordination with the United States.

"Romania's security is built through complementary actions: on the one hand, through our active involvement at the European level, and on the other, through our defence relationship with the United States. These two paths are not mutually exclusive but rather supporting each other, and the US presence remains an essential component of the Allied deterrence and defence posture," the Minister of National Defence stated.
