Cameron reminds students to complete FAFSA to unlock college financial aid

Cameron University is encouraging current and prospective college students to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) now to get the bests consideration for financial aid for the 2027-2028 academic year.

Early submission of a FAFSA ensures access to the maximum amount of grants, work-study funds and low-interest student loans that can help reduce out-of-pocket costs for those seeking a college education.

The cost associated with earning a degree is cited as one of the most significant barriers to higher education. The FAFSA removes that barrier and makes earning a degree far more achievable.

Caryn Pacheco, Cameron's financial assistance director, explained how recent changes to the FAFSA have streamlined the process.

"There have been major changes to the FAFSA in the past five years that have cut the number of questions from more than 100 to just 36 - and as few as 18 for some students," Pacheco said. "This has enabled direct IRS tax data-sharing, which eliminates much confusion and second-guessing for parents and students."

"Most families can finish the FAFSA in under 15 minutes and have an instant submission summary. The process is quicker and easier to complete than ever before," she added.

At Cameron, 86% of undergraduates seeking certificates or degrees receive some form of financial assistance.

Cameron's financial assistance team is available to help students and families navigate the FAFSA process. Specialists and counselors provide one-on-one assistance in person and through scheduled Zoom meetings to answer questions and provide guidance throughout the application process.

Applicants and their families can complete the FAFSA at https://student aid.gov. They should include CU's Federal School Code, 003150, to ensure their information is sent to the university.
