Rep. Andrea Salinas, Oregon Delegation Condemn the Trump Administration for Canceling Nearly $500 Million in Grants for Oregon Energy Projects

Washington, D.C. - Today, U.S. Congresswoman Andrea Salinas, alongside U.S. Senators Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley and U.S. Representatives Suzanne Bonamici, Val Hoyle, Maxine Dexter, and Janelle Bynum issued the following statement denouncing the Trump Administration's cancellation of nearly $500 million in Department of Energy (DOE) grants to support energy reliability, resilience, and efficiency projects in Oregon.

"While Oregonians are already struggling with rising costs, Trump and his Administration are raising energy prices even further by illegally terminating grants to blue states that would have helped provide families with clean, affordable energy while keeping that money flowing only to states that voted for him.

"These grants would have helped every Oregonian by lowering the cost to adapt to rising energy demands for AI and data centers, the cost to modernize our grid, and the cost to address wildfires caused by outdated transmission infrastructure.

"But instead of investing in our communities, creating good-paying jobs, and lowering energy prices, President Trump's reckless and short-sighted decision will make it harder for families to keep their lights on and homes warm.

"We see through this cancellation for what it is: a brazenly political attempt to hurt Oregonians and trample on the Constitution by undermining Congress' power of the purse.

"President Trump is playing with the financial stability of Oregonians and families across the country. He must reverse these cuts immediately and resume the investments Oregonians rely on.

"We stand ready to work with the President if he gets serious about reducing costs rather than using families as pawns in his sick political game."
