EU Supports the Launch of the Global Alliance for Human Rights in Geneva

Launched in Geneva by the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, the Alliance brings together governments, international organisations, civil society, businesses, cities, academics, philosophers, students and many more around a common ambition: to place human rights at the core of decision-making and build a world where rights protect, rights empower, and Human Rights are real for everyone, everywhere.

Building towards the 20th anniversary of the Human Rights Council this year and the 80th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 2028, the launch comes at a critical moment. Across the world, human rights face growing pressures from conflict, inequality, shrinking civic space, and the accelerating impacts of climate change and technological transformation. Against this backdrop, the Global Alliance seeks to mobilise a broad coalition of partners around its call to action: Imagine. Dialogue. Act.

EU Delegation

The European Union welcomes this initiative, because human rights are at the heart of the European Union's values and its external action. We were very pleased to join the launch event as a reliable partner in continuing to commit to advancing human rights globally.

To mark the occasion, the European Union Delegation to the United Nations in Geneva sponsored the reception following the launch, celebrating the beginning of this new Global Alliance.

We are proud to support the Global Alliance for Human Rights and look forward to working with partners from all regions and sectors to help build a world where justice, freedom, equality, and human dignity are upheld for all.

Because human rights are not only universal aspirations. They are the foundation of resilient societies, inclusive development, and, ultimately, lasting peace.
