The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) held an official ribbon cutting September 30, 2026 to celebrate the opening of the Milton walkway, which is ADA compliant and connects the public between Adams Street and Milton Station.
The project, part of the larger Mattapan Line Program, ensures anyone can now safely and accessibly travel to the station from Adams Street. The project also includes new lighting, security cameras, handrails, signage, seating, and landscaping.
"Under the leadership of the Healey-Driscoll Administration, we continue to think outside the box to solve problems and deliver meaningful results for the communities that we serve. Making transportation more convenient, and accessible for all is what the public deserves and expects. This new accessible ramp demonstrates our ability to accelerate work and make it easier to choose transit," said Interim MassDOT Secretary and MBTA General Manager Phillip Eng. "I am proud of the MBTA team for continuing to deliver projects that improve quality of life for the public we serve and rely on mass transportation."
"The installation of the new entrance and ADA-compliant walkway to the Milton trolley stop marks both an important investment and positive milestone. This represents the first visible and major improvement made to the Mattapan Line since the refurbished trolleys began entering daily service several years ago," said Senator William Driscoll Jr. "I look forward to welcoming the MBTA back for additional celebratory ribbon cuttings in the future as the stops and stations are renovated as part of the projects that will bring 100's of millions of dollars in improvements to the overall service, accessibility and experience for riders all along the Mattapan Line."
"This long-awaited improvement at Milton Station will make the station more accessible for commuters who use the Mattapan Line," said Representative Richard G. Wells, Jr. "I'm glad to see this project finally completed, and I thank my colleagues in government, Senator Bill Driscoll and Representative Brandy Fluker-Reid, for their continued advocacy and partnership in this effort."
"I'm glad to see the MBTA investing in a safer, more accessible route between Adams Street and Milton Station, which so many of our neighbors rely on to get to work, school, and appointments," said Representative Brandy Fluker-Reid. "A sloped walkway with new lighting, handrails, and security cameras will make this stop easier and safer for seniors, people with disabilities, families with strollers, and everyone else who uses the Mattapan Line and the Neponset Greenway."
