From 16 to 22 September, more than 2,500 towns and cities will participate in the European Mobility Week, the European Commission's annual flagship campaign promoting sustainable urban mobility.
This year's theme, 'Mobility for Everyone', places intergenerational fairness at the heart of the campaign. It highlights the need to ensure that people of all ages can access sustainable transport, regardless of their income, location, gender or abilities. The European Mobility Week campaign invites participants to envision transport systems that are accessible, inclusive and responsive to every current and future generation. To this end, discussions and dedicated events will bring organisers and participants together to exchange ideas on how to make urban mobility more sustainable, what are the main challenges, and how Europeans can overcome them.
Among the thousands of events, the week's activities feature a Car-Free Day in numerous towns and cities across Europe, creating space for bike tours, walks, and dance events. This year's theme will be also reflected in sports games and cycling sessions for all ages. Educational activities will invite pupils to share their vision for the city's streets. The week will also mark the inauguration of new permanent measures to promote sustainable mobility in towns and cities, including bicycle ramps on staircases and expanded 30 km/h zones.
Apostolos Tzitzikostas, Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism, will launch the European Mobility Week at an event today, 15 September, in Strasbourg. He will be joined by Virginijus Sinkevičius, Vice-Chair of the European Parliament's Committee on transport and former Commissioner for the Environment, and Catherine Trautmann, Mayor of Strasbourg.

Apostolos Tzitzikostas, Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism, said: "The European Mobility Week is a reminder that transport must work for everyone. This year, our campaign's focus is on intergenerational fairness. We need accessible, affordable and reliable mobility solutions that connect people of all ages to services, jobs, education, and each other. A fairer, cleaner and more user-friendly transport system means more opportunities, greater independence and stronger communities across Europe."
