Treasurer Stacy Garrity: You May Find a Check from Pennsylvania Money Match in Your Mailbox!

Harrisburg, PA - Treasurer Stacy Garrity announced today that nearly 100,000 Pennsylvania Money Match checks, totaling over $22 million, have been printed, stamped and shipped to all corners of the Commonwealth. She is urging Pennsylvanians to be on the lookout for these checks and to cash or deposit them promptly when they arrive.

"The inaugural year of Pennsylvania Money Match has been a resounding success that surpassed our goals and exceeded my expectations as we put more than $50 million back in the hands of the people who earned it. This program is a testament to cutting government bureaucracy which is something almost unheard of, and I'm thrilled to continue this program as we work hard to get more money back to its rightful owners."

Pennsylvania Money Match is a new part of Treasury's unclaimed property program. With Money Match, unclaimed property valued up to $500 belonging to a single owner can be returned automatically to individuals without the need to search or file a claim. With the mailing of the year's last batch of checks, more than $50 million will have been returned automatically during the program's first year.

Pennsylvania Money Match was created by Act 81 of 2024, which passed the House and Senate unanimously. Unclaimed property valued above $500, that has multiple owners or other complexities still requires a claim to be filed along with the submission of required documentation.

"I want Pennsylvanians to know that this is a real check, it is real money, and it belongs to them. And as always, I still encourage everyone to regularly search for unclaimed property online, as many claims will not qualify for the Money Match process."

Unclaimed property includes things like dormant bank accounts, uncashed checks, forgotten stocks, rebates, insurance policies and more. It can also include tangible property such as the contents of abandoned safe deposit boxes.

More than one in ten Pennsylvanians is owed some of the $5 billion in unclaimed property in Treasury's care. The average value of a claim is more than $1,000.
