John Crews Confirmed By Senate to NCUA Board

The U.S. Senate has confirmed John Crews to serve on the NCUA Board, succeeding Kyle Hauptman. Crews is expected to be named Chairman by President Trump once he's sworn in.

Crews most recently served in the Treasury Department as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Financial Institutions Policy. Previously he was a policy advisor to House Majority Leader Steve Scalise and Policy Director for the Senate Banking Committee. During the previous Trump Administration, he also served on the National Economic Council as Special Assistant to the President for Economic Policy.

Hauptman's board term expired in August 2025, but he continued serving while awaiting confirmation of his successor. Earlier this year, Hauptman was appointed to the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board and said he would remain at the NCUA until Crews was confirmed.

Crews' confirmation leaves the agency with just one board member following the Trump administration's removal of Democratic members Todd Harper and Tanya Otsuka earlier this year.
