On September 17, 2026, Ambassador Zhang Maoming delivered remarks at the roundtable forum on high-mountain cascading hazard governance, co-hosted by the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) and Nepal's National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA).
Zhang Maoming stated that China is a founding member of ICIMOD, as well as a key supporter and strategic partner of the Centre. For many years, China has been deeply involved in cooperation on Himalayan glacier monitoring, mountain disaster risk reduction and ecological conservation. Following the devastating mudslide-flood disaster on August 26, China has urgently dispatched rescue experts, provided cash assistance, relief supplies and hydrometeorological data, and developed a customized MAZU early-warning solution for Nepal. China is ready to work together with ICIMOD and regional countries to further develop cross-border joint monitoring and early-warning systems, strengthen cross-border emergency coordination and post-disaster reconstruction cooperation, advance science-based and inclusive regional climate governance, and jointly build a safe, resilient, green and sustainable Himalayan community with a shared future.
