On 18 September 2026, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, Evgeny Shestakov, paid a working visit to the Oriental Republic of Uruguay.
In the course of the visit, the deputy head of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry met with the Director-General of the Secretariat of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uruguay, Andrés Peláez.
The interlocutors reviewed the current state and future prospects of bilateral relations, encompassing political dialogue, mutual engagement within international organisations, and co-operation in the humanitarian sphere.
Particular attention was devoted to elaborating joint measures aimed at expanding trade and economic interaction.
The sides also exchanged views on topical matters on the regional agenda.
Following the negotiations, the parties signed an agreement on trade and economic co-operation between the Republic of Belarus and the Oriental Republic of Uruguay. The agreement establishes a framework for deepening bilateral economic ties and provides for the establishment of a joint commission on trade and economic co-operation.
Evgeny Shestakov and Andrés Peláez further concluded a Memorandum of Understanding on cultural and artistic co-operation between the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Belarus and the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay.
