We are overjoyed to announce that Jerry Brewer, an award-winning national sports columnist, is joining our team. He comes to us from The Washington Post, where he has worked since 2015 with a strong mix of insightful, delightful and poignant stories from throughout the world of sports.
Jerry was a 2025 Pulitzer Prize finalist in commentary for "The Grievance Games," a collection of essays that explored social divisions in the United States through sports. Just in the past few weeks, he also wrote stories comparing Tom Brady with Michael Jordan and about the promise of competitive integrity given the spread of sports betting.
He is a native of Paducah, Ky., a graduate of Western Kentucky University and was inducted into the Kentucky Journalism Hall of Fame in 2022. Before he joined the Post, Jerry was a columnist at The Seattle Times (2006-2015) and The Louisville Courier-Journal (2004-2006). He began his career at The Philadelphia Inquirer (2000-2001) before moving to The Orlando Sentinel (2001-2004), where he was promoted to columnist in 2003 at the age of 25.
Jerry is respected for his thoughtful, nuanced opinions and his knack for writing about people and exploring the human condition. He will work with Jorge Rojas, our top Opinion editor, and with many others throughout our broad newsroom to deliver smart and timely stories on a range of subjects. He starts on December 8.
Please join us in welcoming Jerry.
