Friends from the Frostburg State University and Hubei University of Economics celebrated the inauguration of the first Sino-US, FSU-Hubei joint Ski Club in Shanghai, China.
Members got practice runs in at the world's second largest indoor ski resort. The Shanghai L+ Snow Indoor Skiing Theme Resort opened in September 2024 and was certified by the Guinness World Records as the world's largest indoor ski resort. It spans an area of 98,828.7 square meters (1,063,783 sq. ft.). In 2025 it was surpassed in size by a new indoor ski area in Shenzhen, China.
While it was 29 degrees C (85 F) outside, conditions on the slopes of L+ Snow were a cool 0 C (32 F) as Bobcats (FSU's mascot) and Hu Jings (Hubei's tiger-whale mascot) practiced their giant slalom turns on the man-made snow.
The club's next outing is planned for June 2026 at another indoor ski resort in Wuhan -the home of Hubei. Recruiting efforts are underway within the two inaugural cohorts of joint college students who began their studies this fall.
Sudhir Singh and Yiming Zhang are serving as unofficial club advisors.
