Chinese Ambassador to Tonga Liu Weimin Attends Ceremony Hosted by the Ministry of Health of Tonga for Chinese Medical Teams

On July 14, the Ministry of Health of Tonga held a ceremony to bid farewell to the members of the 6th Chinese Medical Team to Tonga and welcome the arrival of the 7th team for their new assignment. H.E. Ambassador Liu Weimin and Hon. Siaosi Sovaleni, Minister for Health of Tonga, attended the ceremony and delivered remarks. Representatives from the Ministry of Health of Tonga and staff of Vaiola Hospital also participated in the event.

Ambassador Liu said that health cooperation is a vital pillar of China-Tonga bilateral relations. The 6th Chinese Medical Team has successfully fulfilled all its tasks in Tonga. The smooth handover between the two teams demonstrates China's consistent commitment to helping improve the health and well-being of the Tongan people. Building on the existing specialties, the 7th team has added experts in traditional Chinese medicine, public health, and otolaryngology, and will provide more comprehensive medical services to local communities.

Hon. Siaosi Sovaleni said that the Chinese medical teams have forged profound friendship with the people of Tonga, which serves as a vivid reflection of the strong partnership between the two countries. He also expressed gratitude to the 6th Chinese Medical Team for their hard work, and looked forward to the 7th team's continued support in upgrading Tonga's medical services for the benefit of local people.
