Natural gas transmission infrastructure

Natural gas transmission infrastructure

2.9.2025

Priority question for written answer P-003363/2025
to the Commission
Rule 144
Mihai Tudose (S&D)

The EU's natural gas transmission infrastructure is being under-funded, when it is a key sector in the EU's efforts to achieve energy security. Geopolitical challenges are forcing the Union to up the pace as regards interconnecting and developing gas transmission networks, with a focus on the crucial eastern flank. A key example is the cross-border interconnection between Romania and the Republic of Moldova.

Given these circumstances, what is the Commission's stance on:

  • 1.Valuing the importance of the energy security component when it comes to applications for financing under the Modernisation Fund, with a view to allocating suitable funding?
  • 2.Introducing natural gas transmission infrastructure as a tool for transition and for replacement of coal-fired heating, by amending the Climate Delegated Act?
