SIKESTON-The Missouri Department of Transportation plans to replace two bridges on Route D and Route 34 in Cape Girardeau County.
The projects include:
Work to replace the Route D bridge could begin as early as spring 2027. During construction, the roadway will be closed in the vicinity of the bridge for approximately four months. A signed detour will be in place from Route D to Route E to Interstate 55 to Business I-55.
Work to replace the Route 34 bridge could begin as early as spring 2028. The bridge will be constructed parallel to the existing structure to avoid closing the roadway. Temporary traffic signals will be in place to guide traffic through the work zone. Construction will be underway for approximately seven months.
Maps, plans, and other information prepared by the Missouri Department of Transportation will be available for public inspection and copying at MoDOT's Sikeston District office, 2675 N. Main St. in Sikeston, Missouri.

Any person affected by these projects may request that a public meeting be held in regard to the proposed improvements. Requests for a public meeting shall be in writing and must be submitted to MoDOT District Engineer Donnie Brown at 2675 North Main St., Sikeston, MO 63801, by Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2026.
