Somali Coast Guard and Navy Officers Complete EUCAP Somalia Maritime Crimes Course

From 19-29 July 2026, EUCAP Somalia delivered a Coast Guard Border Police and Maritime Crimes Course in Mogadishu, bringing together 16 officers-11 from the Somali Police Force Department of Coast Guard and 5 from the Somali Navy and Coast Guard.

Over ten days, participants strengthened their knowledge and practical skills in maritime crime and emerging threats at sea, maritime zones and jurisdiction, maritime law enforcement, Visit, Board, Search and Seizure (VBSS) procedures, boarding planning and execution, investigative techniques, evidence collection and preservation, human rights, and the lawful use of force during maritime operations.

By combining international legal standards with operational best practices, the course enhanced participants' ability to conduct safe, professional and lawful maritime law enforcement operations. The joint participation of officers from the Somali Police Force Department of Coast Guard and the Somali Navy and Coast Guard also strengthened inter-agency cooperation, coordination and the exchange of professional expertise.
