Centennial Voters Decline Ballot Issue 2A

Centennial Voters Decline Ballot Issue 2A

Published on November 05, 2026

According to unofficial election results, Centennial voters did not approve Ballot Issue 2A. The measure would have raised the City's sales and use tax rate by 1%, from 2.5% to 3.5%, to provide dedicated funding for transportation infrastructure and public works services.

"We respect the voters' decision, and we thank everyone who took the time to learn about this issue and cast a ballot," said Mayor Christine Sweetland. "The needs of our roads, bridges, and sidewalks haven't changed, and neither has our commitment to keeping Centennial safe and well maintained. We will work together to put a plan in place to address these needs responsibly, and we will keep residents informed along the way."

In the coming months, the City will begin developing a plan to address its long-term transportation funding needs. That work will likely include reviewing project priorities, service levels, and available funding options.

The City's Street Fund currently receives about $15 million in dedicated revenue each year, but maintaining and operating the transportation system requires at least $35 million annually. In the past, the City has relied on General Fund surplus revenue and reserves to help cover the difference. City projections indicate those resources will become increasingly limited in future budget cycles. As a result, the City will need to review and reprioritize funding for all City services except for parks and open space, which are funded by revenues restricted to those uses.

Election results are unofficial until certified by Arapahoe County. For more election information, visit ArapahoeVotes.gov.
