NEW: Americans Struggle To Make Ends Meet in Trump’s Economy Arrow

Donald Trump's policies, reckless trade war, and unpopular war of choice with Iran have wrecked the economy. Working Americans can't get by as wages fail to keep up with rising prices. Overall inflation in April surged to 3.8%, the highest level in years, as Americans pay more at the pump and the grocery store. Meanwhile, wage growth hit a five-year low at 3.4%, falling behind inflation as sky-high prices continue to swallow up American paychecks.

A report released yesterday showed job cuts rising in May for the third month in a row, up to 97,000 - the highest for the month of May since the COVID-19 pandemic. So far this year, employers have announced 397,755 job cuts, and May marks the third straight month that layoffs have risen. As hiring remains low and the unemployment rate remains high, a growing number of people are being forced to turn to part-time work because they are unable to find full-time jobs.

In response, DNC Rapid Response Director Kendall Witmer released the following statement:

"Donald Trump's economy is a living nightmare for working families. Americans are being laid off left and right, while they drown under high prices for groceries, gas, and high bills on healthcare and rent - and their paychecks aren't keeping up. Trump promised to 'defeat inflation,' yet he continues to double down on the same disastrous policies that created this mess, as he leaves everyday Americans to fend for themselves. Americans are tired of Trump putting his own interests first, while they struggle to make ends meet."

It's no wonder voters overwhelmingly disapprove of Trump's handling of the economy. A new poll this week found that a whopping 72% of Americans disapprove of Trump's handling of inflation, including 55% who "strongly disapprove." Another poll found that a majority of Americans said the cost of living is the worst they can remember. Within his own party, Trump is down 20 points on the economy and 23 points on inflation over the last 12 months.
