S & R Building & Construction wins the prestigious 2026 HIA Northern Territory Home of the Year award

The awards recognised outstanding projects, businesses and individuals across housing, kitchens and bathrooms, and people and business categories.

S & R Building & Construction was named the winner of the coveted 2026 HIA Northern Territory Home of the Year, proudly partnered by Territory Timber & Hardware.
Built against the boundary of a national park near Alice Springs, the winning residence responds directly to its landscape of white gums, native wildlife and expansive views. The design takes advantage of one of the region's last available sites, creating a home that sits comfortably within its natural surroundings.

High ceilings and skylights promote airflow and ventilation, while extensive glass doors draw natural light through the interior and connect living areas with the landscape. Segmented screening provides privacy without restricting breezes, and an automatically frosting window in the main ensuite balances outlook and seclusion. Completed to an exceptionally high standard, the home stood out for its refined finishes, clever use of space and strong response to its natural setting.

S & R Building & Construction also won Custom Built Home of the Year partnered by NT Fasteners, Bathroom of the Year partnered by Reece Group, and Outdoor Project, partnered by Apprentices NT.

Thoughtful apartment transformations earned JMJ Interiors three awards: Kitchen Design of the Year, Bathroom Design of the Year, partnered by Reece Group, and Residential Interior Design, partnered by Dreamedia. Clever storage, practical layouts and carefully selected finishes feature throughout its winning designs.

Beare Homes won Project Home of the Year, partnered by Nortruss Hardware, alongside two Custom Built Home categories and Bathroom of the Year Up to $35,000. Their winning projects reflect a focus on practical family living, low-maintenance finishes and homes suited to the Northern Territory lifestyle.

Holly Genders was named the 2026 HIA Northern Territory Apprentice of the Year, recognised for her strong work ethic, professionalism and commitment to quality and safety. Reliable and eager to learn, Holly brings a positive attitude to every task, welcomes feedback and continues to build her skills. Her resilience and respectful communication make her a valued team member. Employed and hosted by C&R Constructions, Holly will represent the Northern Territory at the Australian Housing Awards in May 2027. This category was partnered by Stratco.

HIA Northern Territory Executive Director Luis Espinoza said, "HIA's Apprentice of the Year award shines a spotlight on the outstanding talent emerging across the industry and encourages more young people to consider a career in residential building. By recognising excellence and dedication at the beginning of a tradesperson's career, the industry can help inspire future apprentices, promote high standards of workmanship and build a strong, skilled workforce for years to come."

Held annually, the Housing Industry Association (HIA) Awards recognise the outstanding talent, craftsmanship and dedication of the individuals and businesses shaping the Northern Territory's residential building landscape. The prestigious event showcases exceptional projects and celebrates the industry professionals who continue to raise the standard of residential construction across the Territory.

"HIA congratulates all winners and finalists for their achievements and for showcasing the innovation, craftsmanship and professionalism that underpin the Territory's building industry," Mr Espinoza concluded.
