Aistė Bertulytė-Žikevičienė, Director of the Development Cooperation Department, participated in the annual high-level meeting 'Tidewater' of the OECD Development Assistance Committee (DAC), in Reykjavik, Iceland, on 8 and 9 September.
During the annual 'Tidewater' meeting, participants discussed the future of development cooperation in the context of the evolving geopolitical landscape, the continued importance of Official Development Assistance (ODA), and the future role of the DAC-often referred to as the world's leading donor club. As global dynamics shift, growing concerns include not only declining development funding but also the need for effective responses to partner needs and the overall impact of development cooperation. Informal discussions focused on necessary changes to DAC operations, governance, and working methods to ensure development cooperation remains a vital tool for building global partnerships and addressing shared challenges.
At the meeting, Bertulytė-Žikevičienė presented Lithuania's growing contribution to development cooperation, with particular emphasis on support provided to Ukraine and the development of recovery and reconstruction projects. Many participants highlighted that in light of current geopolitical challenges-such as Russia's war against Ukraine and conflicts in other regions-support for development cooperation remains crucial for ensuring security, stability, and sustainable development, especially in the most vulnerable countries.
