City of Denton Holiday Operating Hours and Closures

DENTON, TX, Dec. 15, 2025 - In observance of the Christmas holiday, the City of Denton announces several facility closures and service adjustments. Unless noted below, the City will return to regular operations at 8 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 26. Additionally, City facilities will be closed on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026, in observance of New Year's Day and will reopen at 8 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 2.

Airport
Airport administrative offices will be closed on Wednesday, Dec. 24; Thursday, Dec. 25; and Thursday, Jan. 1. The air traffic control tower will be open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., and the airfield will remain open 24 hours a day throughout the holiday season. Airport Operations is available 24/7 at (940) 349-7722.

Animal Services and Shelter
Animal Services and the Linda McNatt Animal Care & Adoption Center will be closed on Wednesday, Dec. 24 and Thursday, Dec. 25. Regular hours will resume on Friday, Dec. 26. Animal Services will also be closed on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026 and will resume regular hours on Friday, Jan. 2. To report an animal-related non-emergency, call (940) 349-8181. In case of an emergency, call 911.

Libraries
All libraries will close at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23, and be closed on Wednesday, Dec. 24 and Thursday, Dec. 25. Regular hours will resume on Friday, Dec. 26. All libraries will also close at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 31 and be closed on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026. Regular hours will resume on Friday, Jan. 2.

Municipal Courts
The Denton Municipal Court will be closed Wednesday, Dec. 24 and Thursday, Dec. 25. Online options and automated phone payments remain available 24 hours per day. Normal business hours will resume Friday, Dec. 26. The Denton Municipal Court will also be closed Thursday, Jan. 1. Online options and automated phone payments remain available 24 hours per day. Normal business hours will resume Friday, Jan. 2.

Parks and Recreation
The Denton Civic Center, Denia Rec Center, MLK Jr. Rec Center, North Lakes Rec Center, Denton Senior Center, and American Legion Hall Senior Center will be closed on Wednesday, Dec. 24 and Thursday, Dec. 25. Regular hours will resume on Friday, Dec. 26. Additionally, these facilities will have limited hours on Wednesday Dec. 31, closing early at 6 p.m. and will be closed on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026. Regular hours will resume on Friday, Jan. 2.

The North Lakes Driving Range will be closed on Wednesday, Dec. 24 and Thursday, Dec. 25. Regular hours will resume on Friday, Dec. 26. Additionally, this facility will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 31 and Thursday, Jan. 1.

The Denton Natatorium will be closed on Wednesday, Dec. 24 and Thursday, Dec. 25. Regular hours will resume on Friday, Dec. 26. Additionally, this facility will have limited hours on Wednesday, Dec. 31, closing at 6 p.m. and will be closed on Thursday, Jan. 1. Regular hours will resume on Friday, Jan 2.

The Denton Tennis and Pickleball Center will be closed on Wednesday, Dec. 24 and Thursday, Dec. 25. Regular hours will resume on Friday, Dec. 26. Additionally, this facility will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 31 and will be closed on Thursday, Jan. 1. Regular hours will resume on Friday, Jan. 2.

Public Safety
Public safety personnel will be on duty during the holiday. The Denton Police Department non-emergency number is (940) 349-8181, and in case of an emergency, dial 911.

Solid Waste & Recycling
Please see information below related to Home Chemical Collection, City of Denton Landfill, and curbside trash and recycling collection schedules.

For Christmas:

• The Home Chemical Collections Drop Off & Re-use Store will be open to the public from 7 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, Dec. 24, closed on Thursday, Dec. 25, and will reopen to the public from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 26.
• The City of Denton Landfill will be open to the public from 7 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, Dec. 24, closed on Thursday, Dec. 25, and will reopen to the public from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 26.
• There will be no curbside trash, recycling, yard waste, bulk, or home chemical collection on Thursday, Dec. 25. Collection will be delayed one day during the week.

For New Year's Day:

• The Home Chemical Collections Drop Off & Re-use Store will be closed on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2025, and will reopen at 7 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 2.
• The City of Denton Landfill will be closed on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026, and will reopen at 7 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 2.
• There will be no curbside trash, recycling, yard waste, bulk, or home chemical collection on Thursday, Jan. 1. Thursday collection moves to Friday.

Utilities
Customer Service will be closed on Wednesday, Dec. 24 and Thursday, Dec. 25 and will reopen at normal business hours on Friday, Dec. 26. To report a utility service emergency, call Utilities dispatch at (940) 349-7000. Customer Service will also be closed on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2025 and will resume normal hours Friday, Jan. 2.
