Kansas City Opens Applications for the 2026 PLANT Grant Program

Kansas City is accepting applications for the latest funding cycle of the Promoting Local Agriculture & Neighborhood Transformation (PLANT) Grant Program, which supports community-based efforts to expand local food production, increase access to fresh foods, and advance regenerative agriculture. Applications are open through Sept. 21.

Last year, Kansas City awarded $200,000 to 26 community gardens and urban agriculture projects dedicated to strengthening the local food system and improving food access across the community.

Projects seeking funding must support at least one of the following goals:

  • Increase food production, processing, and/or distribution for public sale or distribution
  • Improve distribution and access to fresh foods
  • Advance regenerative agricultural efforts that produce food in Kansas City while delivering social and environmental benefits
Funding Levels
  • Up to $5,000 for new farms or garden projects operating for less than two years
  • Up to $5,000 for projects that previously received a PLANT Grant
  • Up to $10,000 for existing farms operating for three years or longer
Awarded projects will receive 50% of grant funds upfront, with the remaining balance distributed according to the grant agreement. All awarded funds must be spent within nine months of the award date.

Eligibility Requirements
All projects must:

  • Meet at least one of the three program goals
  • Be located within the city limits of Kansas City, Missouri
Community garden and orchard sites planning to work with Kansas City Community Gardens (KCCG) must also:
  • Complete a site assessment with KCCG before applying
  • Include the completed assessment with their application
