Green technology has hit a turning point. Last year, despite geopolitical turmoil and market chaos, clean energy cleared major goalposts, with solar and wind power outpacing coal as the leading source of electricity in many countries, as cost effectiveness surpassed that of fossil fuels. With global energy demand rising, more money is now being invested into clean energy, also outpacing fossil fuel.
To assess the most notable technology shaping the sustainability space, TIME and Statista partnered to conduct a comprehensive analysis of the top-performing U.S. companies that are focused on developing or providing technologies, products, or services that help mitigate or reverse the environmental impacts of human activity. Companies were ranked based on positive environmental impact, innovation, and financial strength, and the top 250 were named to "America's Top GreenTech Companies of 2026."
