LOS ANGELES - The NAACP is proud to announce that through a $200,000 donation from Airbnb, it has expanded the Altadena Community Preservation Fund, a critical program preserving the cultural identity and generational wealth of the Altadena community in the aftermath of the Eaton Fire.
Rooted in a vision of resilience, equity, and self-determination, the Altadena Community Preservation Fund provides direct cash assistance to homeowners and small business owners affected by the fire. This funding allows residents to recover on their own terms - helping to meet immediate needs, prevent displacement, and protect against economic exploitation as they rebuild their lives. The program reinforces the NAACP's ongoing work to promote economic equity and protect communities of color from systemic barriers that threaten homeownership and financial stability.
"Altadena is a vibrant, multicultural community with deep roots in Black homeownership and economic stability," said Yumeka Rushing, NAACP Chief of Strategy. "Thanks to Airbnb's generous partnership, this donation ensures that longtime residents can return, rebuild, and remain in the neighborhoods they helped shape."
"Rebuilding after tragedy is about much more than construction; it's about safeguarding the history and significance of a place for those who once called it home," said Janaye Ingram, Director of Community Partner Programs and Engagement at Airbnb. "We are proud to stand by our Airbnb hosts in LA in supporting NAACP's efforts to rebuild and strengthen more Angeleno communities like Altadena."
The Altadena Community Preservation Fund was created to address the unique needs of the Altadena community following the Eaton Fire. The initiative focuses on ensuring long-term impact and community-led recovery by offering funding, resources, and guidance to help residents navigate rebuilding. Through this fund, the NAACP and its partners aim to restore not only homes and businesses but also trust, stability, and opportunity - protecting the community's right to advance for generations to come.
The Airbnb donation comes via the Airbnb Community Fund, a $100 million initiative launched in 2020 to directly support local communities and the people who live there. Each year, Airbnb donates to organizations that are supporting and strengthening communities around the world. This specific effort is part of Airbnb's $30 million investment in LA's recovery and relief following the wildfires in early 2024.
