Keep Reading This Summer: Make it fun & stay motivated!

Summer is almost here - but reading doesn't have to take a vacation. In fact, keeping up with books over the summer helps kids stay confident and ready for the net school year, avoiding the "summer slide."

Try these easy, engaging ideas:

  1. Join the Library's Summer Reading Program, starting June 1. Kids can track their progress, stay motivated, and celebrate with us at the end of summer.
  2. Let kids & teens choose what they read. From adventure stories to graphic novels, reading is more exciting when it matches their interests.
  3. Mix up the formats. Audiobooks, comics, and magazine all count - keep things fresh and fun.
  4. Be a reading role model. When kids see adults enjoying books, it inspires them to read too.
  5. Set a simple goal. Reading just 4 to 6 books over the summer can help maintain important skills. [Update and link to summer slide web article]
  6. Explore free library events. Storytimes, workshops, and activities make reading interactive and social.

A little reading each week can make a big difference - so keep it light, fun, and part of your summer routine.
