United States Welcomes Türkiye's Signing of the Artemis Accords
The Department of State congratulates the Republic of Türkiye on joining the Artemis Accords. Türkiye is the 71st country to sign the Accords to date, pledging its commitment to peaceful exploration and use of space.
Türkiye's Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacır signed the Accords on behalf of the Republic of Türkiye on August 31, 2026. U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Space and Environment Connor Tomlinson and NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman witnessed and celebrated the signing at a ceremony at the Mary W. Jackson NASA Headquarters in Washington, D.C. Türkiye is a long standing and valued NATO ally with which the United States closely coordinates on defense cooperation, regional security, and commercial partnerships.
The United States and seven other countries established the Artemis Accords in 2020 in President Trump's first term, to serve as a set of practical principles to guide responsible space exploration. Türkiye joins the United States and 69 other nations in affirming the Accords' principles for sustainable civil space activity. The Department of State and NASA lead the United States' outreach and implementation of the Accords.
