Raffensperger Doubles Down on Trump's Cost-Raising Economic Agenda

GOP Gubernatorial Candidates Are More Focused on Pledging Loyalty to Trump Than Fighting for Georgia Families

Georgia GOP gubernatorial candidate and Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger doubled down on his support for Donald Trump's cost-raising economic agenda in a new interview with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, accelerating the chaotic and messy primary race to the right between him, Burt Jones, and Chris Carr.

Like Jones and Carr, Raffensperger bragged about his support for Trump's budget law that raises costs, rips health care away from hundreds of thousands of Georgians, threatens rural hospitals and nursing homes, and jeopardizes manufacturing jobs. Trump's budget law has already closed one maternal care unit in the state.

In the interview, Raffensperger also "made clear he opposes Medicaid expansion," despite there being bipartisan support to fully expand Medicaid in Georgia. When asked, Raffensperger defended the state's failed Pathways to Coverage program, which a new report from the U.S. Government Accountability Office revealed has wasted taxpayer money on administrative costs rather than actually providing health care to working Georgians.

"Like Burt Jones and Chris Carr, Brad Raffensperger opposes Medicaid expansion and is in full support of D.C. Republicans' agenda that jacks up costs, rips away health care, and has already shut down one maternal care unit in Georgia," said DGA spokesperson Kevin Donohoe. "The Republican gubernatorial candidates are more focused on pledging allegiance to Trump's agenda than focusing on the issues that Georgians actually care about."
