WASHINGTON - U.S. Customs and Border Protection, in coordination with the Canada Border Services Agency, announced today that the NEXUS and Free and Secure Trade-North Trusted Traveler Programs will return enrollment interview scheduling timeframes to two years.

Beginning April 1, 2027, travelers who have been conditionally approved for NEXUS AND FAST-North will have two years instead of five to schedule their enrollment interviews.

The timeframe had been temporarily extended from two years to five years to accommodate disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, but with enrollment interview capacity fully restored, the program is returning to its standard operational policy.

Conditionally approved applicants must schedule an in-person interview with both U.S. and Canadian authorities. The interview typically takes place at an Enrollment Center (or via Enrollment on Arrival for U.S. NEXUS interviews) and includes identity verification, fingerprint and photo collection, and verification of eligibility by CBP and CBSA Officers.

The deadline to schedule an enrollment interview for the NEXUS or FAST-North programs depends on the date of the traveler's conditional approval.

  • Conditional approvals granted on or after April 1, 2027: Applicants must schedule their enrollment interview within two years of the conditional approval date.
  • Conditional approvals granted before April 1, 2027: Applicants must schedule their enrollment interview within five years of the approval date, or by April 1, 2029, whichever comes first.
    • Example A: An applicant conditionally approved on Jan. 1, 2023, has five years, until Jan. 1, 2028, to schedule an enrollment interview since the five years is up before the cut-off date of April 1, 2029.
    • Example B: An applicant conditionally approved on Jan. 1, 2026, has until April 1, 2029, to schedule an interview because five years would stretch beyond the cut-off date.

Applicants should log into their Trusted Traveler Programs account dashboard to verify their status and schedule an interview. Travelers are encouraged to check back frequently for newly opened appointment slots or enable the "New Appointment Times" feature in the Trusted Traveler Programs mobile app to receive push notifications for available interviews.
