The City of Raleigh is moving forward with plans to improve Quail Hollow Drive between Hardimont Road and Millbrook Road-making the street safer, greener, and more comfortable for people walking, biking, and using other forms of active mobility.
Identified in the 2020 Midtown-St. Albans Area Plan, the Quail Hollow Drive Green Street project is designed to improve mobility, calm traffic, and explore opportunities for green stormwater infrastructure (GSI) along this important neighborhood corridor.
The project is currently in the advanced design phase for active mobility improvements, following the completion of preliminary design in Summer 2025. Feedback gathered during the preliminary design phase has been reviewed and incorporated as the project moves forward.
Planned active mobility improvements include:
These improvements are intended to slow vehicle speeds, create dedicated space for people biking and scooting, improve the pedestrian experience, and increase connectivity to nearby schools, parks, greenways, and commercial areas.
Green streets are designed to do more than move traffic. Along Quail Hollow Drive, the project also explores opportunities to manage stormwater more effectively before it reaches nearby waterways. Big Branch Creek, which runs parallel to the corridor, flows into Crabtree Creek-currently classified as impaired. Incorporating GSI, such as bioretention areas or permeable surfaces, can help slow, clean, and manage runoff while also enhancing the look and feel of the street.
Community input continues to play an important role in shaping this project. Residents are encouraged to review the advanced design details and share their thoughts through the online survey.
