The Electoral Observation Mission (EOM) of the Organization of American States (OAS) in Peru, headed by former Secretary General of the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF), Víctor Rico Frontaura, calls on the Special Electoral Juries (JEEs) to act with the urgency that the circumstances require.
Nine days have passed since Election Day, and the EOM has monitored the work of 14 Special Electoral Juries, 12 Decentralized Offices of Electoral Processes (in Lima and Callao), and observed 161 hearings. During this period, the Mission observed that the JEEs have worked diligently and in accordance with the law to resolve all disputes. However, it is imperative to expand the capacity and working hours of these temporary electoral authorities so that the pending cases-equivalent to less than 1% of polling station records-can be resolved as quickly as possible.
The EOM stresses that the administration of electoral justice must be effective and timely to provide certainty regarding this second presidential election, which has proceeded normally. The Mission reiterates that it has not identified any irregularities that would call into question the integrity of the information presented by the electoral authorities and regrets the misinformation generated throughout the process, particularly during the post-election period.
The EOM continues to monitor activities during this stage of the electoral process.
