Saxon, Alfred State football teams set to meet in Alfred Cup matchup

The Alfred Cup, an annual year-long competition between varsity sports teams from Alfred University and Alfred State College, continues on Saturday, Nov. 8, when the Saxon football team visits Alfred State for a 1 p.m. contest at the Pioneer Stadium.

The Alfred Cup-sponsored by The Power & Construction Group and ServU Federal Credit Union-is an annual competition between Alfred University and Alfred State College athletic teams. A points-based system that awards two points for a win, one for a tie, and no points for a loss will determine the inaugural Alfred Cup winner, and recipient of the Traffic Light Trophy presented by the Power & Construction Group. The competition highlights the unique setting of two NCAA Division III schools located in the small, but fiercely competitive, village of Alfred.

Cash and/or pantry stable food donations will be collected the game, with proceeds and donated goods benefiting two local organizations: Alfred Area Food Pantry (nonperishable food donations) and Alfred Almond Community Youth Sports Association (cash donations). In addition, both football teams support the National Bone Marrow Program. Alfred University football organizes a bone marrow donor registration drive each spring.

At each Alfred Cup contest, Alfred University and Alfred State faculty, staff, and alumni can sign up to win a grand prize. This is an attendance-based competition. Participants may submit one entry for each contest they attend, with each additional event attended increasing their chances of winning. The grand prize drawing will take place at the end of the school year. Stop by the Alfred University Alumni Relations tent to enter the contest. Alfred University and Alfred State will also have merchandise available for sale and to give away.

The Pioneer Stadium ticket gate will be open one hour prior to kickoff. There will be no advanced ticket sales. General admission ticket prices for the game are $10, cash only, with children ages 12 and under admitted free. A portion of the ticket fee will support the Alfred-Almond Youth Sports Organization. Alfred University students, faculty, and staff are free with a valid university ID.

Alfred University fans are encouraged to park in the bottom two tiers, lots 18 and 19, outside Pioneer Stadium.
